Cataract Surgery

Cataract surgery is a commony surgical procedure in the elderly population. This teaching videos provides patients and their caregivers with basic knowledge about what cataracts are and how they are surgically treated. We have also include a free fact brochure about cataracts that you may download.

This surgery restores vision to patients whose sight has been seriously impaired by cataracts. The procedure is done on an outpatient basis, and most patients are in and out of the surgery center in a few hours.

Cholecystectomy

This procedure is the surgical removal of the gallbladder, a small, non-vital organ located just below the liver. Cholecystectomy is commonly used to treat gallstones, but the gallbladder may also need to be removed to treat infection or disease.

Colonoscopy

Colonoscopy is a procedure that most adults will experience at least once in their lifetime. What is colonoscopy?

This procedure is used to examine the large intestine for inflammation, ulcers, or abnormal growths such as cancer. The physician uses a colonoscope – a small, lighted camera inside a soft, flexible tube. The procedure usually lasts from 30 minutes to an hour.

EGD (Upper Endoscopy)

Caregiver, learn about upper endoscopy from this interactional video. This is a common procedure for older adults.

This procedure is used to examine the lining of the esophagus, stomach, and upper duodenum for inflammation, ulcers, or growths. It can rule out disorders such as acid reflux or hiatal hernia. The physician uses a small camera, called an endoscope, which is inserted into the mouth and guided down the throat. The examination usually lasts from 5 to 20 minutes.

MRI

This noninvasive medical imaging technique uses a powerful magnetic field to create a detailed three-dimensional view of the inside of the body. The images it produces are similar to those generated by a Computed Tomography CT scan, but MRI images provide a much clearer view of soft tissues. This makes MRI a valuable diagnostic tool for the visualization of cancer, infection, internal bleeding and soft tissue trauma.
